About the Author
Meghan Hertzfeldt
Meghan Hertzfeldt is the author of the Game Time children’s sports fiction series, including Alex and the Big Assist, runner-up for Sports Book of the Year. Written to entertain and empower young readers, her books feature lively, humorous storytelling centered around character-building traits, inclusion, and the challenges of youth sports.
A former twin-pregnancy author turned sports-fiction creator, Meghan has always believed children deserve stories that are not only fun to read, but that also reflect their world—full of teammates, setbacks, perseverance, and grit. She gets her best ideas at the hockey rink, ball field, and courts, where she spends much of her life cheering on her kids and collecting material.
At home, Meghan can frequently be found playing goalie in the basement while her twin boys shoot pucks at her face. She is a pickleball enthusiast, has climbed a 14er in Colorado, and (much to her own shock) once outran wild boars on a beach in Mexico.
Meghan writes with the conviction that sports can shape kids into confident, resilient humans—and that books should be just as thrilling as the game.
Alex and the Big Assist is about a kid finding his way. Throughout the ups and downs remains his love for hockey, and Alex is put to his biggest test yet.
